Jose J. Fortes (Djedje de Ma Julia), 86, passed away on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Brava, Cape Verde Islands, he was the son of the late Joaquim and Julia (Baptista) Fortes. He leaves behind his beloved wife Julia Fortes of 47 years, His son Luis Fortes, two beautiful grandchildren that he loved dearly, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by nine siblings.
Djedje immigrated to the United States in 1965 to Jersey City, NJ before moving to Pawtucket RI in 1978. He retired from New England Paper Tube and since then had been enjoying his time with his family.
He loved carpentry and touched many homes with memories of his talent. He also enjoyed watching videos with this grandson Gavin. Djedje loved telling amazing memorable stories of Cape Verde and spending time with family and friends. His love for his family and friends will forever remain unmeasurable and remembered by everyone.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, May 4th, at the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln from 5pm - 8pm.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 10am from the funeral home with a mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, High St., Pawtucket. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Riverside.
